Breaking Out of the Pack

Blogged by sovelis as Boss Downed! — sovelis Tue 20 May 2008 12:15 am

Kalecgos down. Alliance 3rd, Server 5th.

Just another boss kill? BRM makes its first big dent in the brick wall that is Sunwell progression. After two weeks off from progress raiding, we came back tonight and took him down in our last attempt of the evening. Now it’s time to gear and prep for the first real gear check of TBC: Brutallus!

We can’t forget the epics: Band of Lucent Beams (Kro), Skyshatter Wristguards (Einah), Thunderheart Bracers (Talisman), and Bracers of Absolution (Emmee).

Some recruitment is still open. See the Application forum for more details (Hunters, Druids, etc).

Illidan With a Side of Purples

Blogged by sovelis as Boss Downed! — sovelis Sun 4 May 2008 11:47 pm

This time around, we were prepared (Can’t believe I avoided that reference in the first post). No funny instant 24k hits, no stray shears, no rampant parasites chewing at our ankles. Illidan down…lootable…quests completed…and the most imporant thing: 3 badges of justice. Feels better to kill the last boss in tier 6 and actually get to collect loot from him.

Grats to Rawfodog (Skyshatter Chestguard), Emmee (Shroud of Absolution), Panelli (Robes of the Tempest), Darick (Cowl of the Illidari High Lord), and Darae (Shard of Azzinoth), on the first epics from Illidan.

A Kill Shot 10,000 Years in the Making

With 3 raid nights reserved to finish off the Lord of Outland, BRM walked into Black Temple confident that Illidan would be down soon, especially after a heartbreaking 19% wipe to finish our raid week on Monday. After going through the positioning phase by phase (again), Illidan was dead 21 minutes later. For 93% the fight was picture perfect; like we’ve been doing this for months. One poor trap placement and an untimely shear later, and the raid was scrambling to burn the final 7%. As one raider after another fell to Illidans’s glaives, the fight ended and Illidan was dead amongst 25 of BRM’s finest…and Patch 2.4.2 can’t come soon enough:

This is one of those times I wonder why Blizzard waits to fix these kinds of bugs, but shuts down the server immediately whenever little Timmy can’t finish his fishing daily, but I digress…

Illidan is dead. Tier 6 content: Complete. To put an exclamation point on an already fantastic raid, we headed to Hyjal and one-shot our way to Archimonde…who also died 2 pulls later (Grats to Spav on his Cat’s Edge, Kass on some new pants, Aisha on his radar helm, Naobi on a new hood, and Cheese on his slack-jawed 3rd piece of Gronnstalker). Fraps and Illidan loot to come.

Had Illidan’s corpse not despawned, we’re pretty sure it would have looked something like this:

Thirty-Eight Down, One To Go

Blogged by sovelis as Boss Downed! — sovelis Tue 1 Apr 2008 12:04 am

We’ve exorcised the ghosts of Medivh’s Tower.

We’ve vanquished the one-eyed monster king and subdued the vile pitlord Magtheridon.

Lady Vashj’s ploy to create a new well of eternity and Kael’thas’ mad grasp for power were both foiled.

We went back in time and defended the World Tree…again.

And now BRM is poised to overthrow the Lord of Outland, Illidan Stormrage. It took a well coordinated dance to finish off the second to last boss of Black Temple, but in the end they left us with Belt of Divine Guidance, Skyshatter Pants, Onslaught Legguards, and Leggings of the Tempest. We got the whole thing on film, click here to watch.

Also, Hunter, Priest, and Druid (Restos only) recruitment is open, follow the link to the forums to apply.

Recruitment is Open (Updated 3/31/08)

Blogged by sovelis as Site Admin — sovelis Tue 25 Mar 2008 8:42 am

Welcome to 2.4!

BRM is seeking motivated players to flesh out its raiding roster. While the Black Temple key questline is no longer a requirement, needing only Al’ar or Rage Winterchill is a big plus (shadow resistance neck).

We are still seeking a resto druid and priest (pref shadow), hunter and paladin recruitment is closed for the immediate future.

Please follow the forum link at the top of the page to our Application thread. Take some time and put thought into your application. Your chances at a tryout are based heavily on the quality of your application.

Thank you for your interest in BRM.

Yo momma is so…

…another resist fight. Mother Shahraz, the madame of Black Temple’s Den of Mortal Delight, now lays much less pleasantly than usual. The screenshot below is quite representative of how our raid looked as she died. Making someone’s mother go down was just as good as everyone thought. 3/5 tier 6 pieces looted, 12/14 tier 6 bosses down. With Patch 2.4 and new raid content imminent, BRM presses onward.

Loot: Mantle of the Tempest, Lightbringer Shoulderguards, and Heartshatter Breastplate.

Buy Sam a drink, and get his dog one too.

Maybe this one was a little too easy.

High DPS? check
Rogues that know where the kick button is? check
Warrior executing for 14k? check

Cap it off with the opening of the final wing in Black Temple. Only two bosses stand between BRM and The Betrayer. Oh yes, the epics: The Wavemender’s Mantle and Grips of Damnation.

World Tree Safe

Sweet Victory

With one of the most grueling and frustrating encounters behind us, we at Blood Red Moon reflect on our time spent running around the feet of a 25ft tall Eredar like frightened schoolgirls.

Other things we learned while getting Archimonde down:

1) Anecdotal evidence proves that Archimonde is the laggiest encounter in TBC. You clicked your tears, but they just didn’t work…..right?

2) No sneezing allowed while fighting Archimonde.

3) There was nothing you could do.

4) Adding salt to your bath water will, in fact, not turn you into a mermaid.

5) Your chance to die is inversely proportional to the amount of gold you have to pay the raid leader when you screw up.

6) Krotei can sing Super Mario music a cappella.

7) Never say “I never crater.”

Congratulations to everyone that has ever wiped to this guy, all of our efforts have finally paid off. When all was said and done, and the fight was finally over, we received a Bristleblitz Striker, Scepter of Purification, Slayer’s Helm, and Hood of the Malefic.

Hyjal is done, now to finish what we started in Black Temple.

Archimonde Down

Gurtogg reminds me of a cross between the monsters from The People Under the Stairs and Sloth. We tried to find him a new home, but, in the end, we had to put ‘em down. Turns out they stash some good epics on this guy: Leggings of Divine Retribution and Vest of Mounting Assault. We can now focus our attention on Don Archimonde.

Some sound advice for fighting the notorious tree lover.

Five Weeks Later

Blogged by sovelis as Site Admin, Boss Downed! — sovelis Wed 16 Jan 2008 12:00 am

We’ve been collecting loot from the Shade of Akama for about 5 resets now, but each time he’s bugged out. Tonight we finally got more than 1 attempt and dropped him on the 2nd try, so we can now officially claim the Shade of Akama kill. Knowing we can kill him the right way is better than just collecting the free epics every week, and knowing is half the battle.
Shoulders of the Hidden Predator and Spiritwalker Gauntlets not quite as free this time.

Shade of Akama Down
P.S. Do not be alarmed. That is indeed a ret paladin in the screenshot.
